VASCULAR COMPLICATIONS IN 417 CONSECUTIV E RENAL TRANSPLANTS
Authors
Abstract:
The vascular complications, their management and results of treatment in 417 consecutive renal transplantations performed at Taleghani Hospital from September 1989 to December 1997, are presented. There were 7 (1.6%) vascular complications. Among them renal artery stenosis occurred in 2 cases (0.4%), renal artery thrombosis in 2 cases (0.4%), renal vein thrombosis in one case (0.2%), bleeding from the venous suture line in the immediate peri operative period in one case and renal pelvic necrosis in another one. Arterial reconstruction was performed in 2 patients and allograft removal took place in 3 patients. There was no death due to vascular complication.

INTRODUCTION Renal transplantation is the best treatment for end-stage renal disease. In the last years, we have seen improvements in immunosuppressive treatment, which have allowed patients to experience a better quality of life and graft survival. Nevertheless, surgical complications remain important problems that increase morbidity, mortality, costs, and hospitalization. Our purpose was to e...

KIDNEY transplantation has improved tremendously over the past decades. After the introduction of cyclosporine (CyA), delayed graft function and surgical complications became the most important prognostic factors. Early diagnosis and management can save the grafted kidney and prevent life-threatening complications. We investigated the surgical complications in 1000 kidney transplantations at ou...

PUBLICATIONS on ureteral complications in renal transplantation usually only discuss technical factors. Very few investigators have assessed the role of other risk factors in the development of this problem. Some researchers have pointed out the role of rejection in the development of ureteral stenosis. However, they neither characterize the lesions nor propose any etiologic pathogenic mechanis...

Surgical techniques for kidney transplantation were first described in 1951 by Kuss et al. and have since changed very little. The most common surgical procedure is extraperitoneal transplantation in the right ilia...
